BRUCE ROWE: RECENT WORKS

December 17, 2019

Bruce Rowe is an artist, architect and the creative director of a design studio, Anchor Ceramics. A dynamic creative practitioner, Rowe established Anchor Ceramics in 2012 to experiment with the materiality of clay and apply design thinking to the ceramics process. He leads the Anchor studio on object design, spearheading numerous creative projects that are self-initiated, commissioned or a response to a client brief. Rowe’s artistic practice, encompassing painting, drawing, and sculpture, is deeply embedded in the studio. His work explores light, form, and structure combined with an exacting exploration of material and process. Rowe’s artworks retain a timeless quality and evoke echoes of architecture and of place. Through form, shadow, reflection, and color, Rowe explores the phenomenon of light. Experiences of this phenomenon are a primary concern of his practice.

Recent Works includes a new series of sculptural wall reliefs, timber-framed form studies and free-standing works presented on timber and steel plinths. Notions of protection, defense, refuge, and boundary have been explored. This body of work engages with the liminal or threshold spaces that exist between the positive and shadow aspects of these ideas. Each sculpture is constructed using Australian clay bodies with a number formulated specifically for the works in this exhibition. Showing in Los Angeles, CA with Stahl + Band between 9 November to December 2019.
